Beep..beep..beep..
Two days, or eighteen hours precisely, I've been spending my time in ICU. Practicing for critical nursing. And I'm already used with that noises. Noises that come from monitor that attached to different parts of patient's body. Usually it's the chest, but it could be the abdomen too. Every monitor has it own rhythm according to patient's conditions.
There's a dialogue in Sherlock Season 1: The Great Game about noises that left me dumbstruck.
Sherlock: What's that noises?
Moriarty: It's a sounds of life Sherlock. But I can fix it soon.
Yeah, sometimes noises do mean sounds of life. Imagine ICU without noises. It will be very amiss. And leave us with only two options, either there's nothing patient in there or the patient is dead. A little bit creepy isn't? That noises indicated you're alive or dead.
Well, imagine this. Someone who really noisy, blurted everything in his/her mind, often irritated you because they are a chatterbox. One day he/she is keep silence. Completely utter no word. Even throwing an insult like he/he always do. Don't you think that weird? Yes it is. Because believe it or not, there's something dead inside them. Either it is their passion, their spirit, their hope, their love, etc. And when that things happen, you should be alarmed. Because even the noisy people could do something worst, which is they don't seek for help, maybe because they can't or they don't want to. But the result will same. They will 'dead' forever, unless you do something to stop it. If you dead physically, we always can perform CPR to save your life. But how if you dead mentally?
Maybe that's what Rasulullah saw means with "The synonym of a person who remember Allah (with dzikr) and not doing so is like a person who lived and the other is dead." So many people live their life, but dead inside. Because they are far away from remember Allah. May Allah guide me, so I'll always remember Him in every step in my life.
There one more from Sherlock, this time is his dialogue with Irene Adler in Sherlock Season 2: The Scandal in Belgravia.
Sherlock: There will be a lot noises.
Irene: So what?
Sherlock: Oh, noise is important. They can tell you almost everything.
Just as critical nurses know their patients have some problem from the alarm or change pattern in their cough, we supposed to know there something with people around us by their noises. Laugh or cry, absolutely will bring different mean. Even silence, when no noises can't hear, sometimes can consider as an answer. Actually, it can be the most powerful answer too.
I don't know how many times I'll need to make that noises comeback. All I know I start feeling guilty. And it's not a good sign.
I just wish that everything I did, didn't counting as cut off the sillaturahim. After all, I just protect other and me from myself.
