Pastika, My Teacher Today

I Made Mangku Pastika, the Governance of Bali. I only see his face in television, posters, or Baliho. The first time I saw him live in some debate public for the election as an incumbent candidate, versus his own friends, A.A. Puspayoga. The problem is, Mr. Puspayoga didn't show up. So, he was won without even start a battle.

But that wasn't the point. For the first time he speaks, I've been in awe. What's is it? Hmmm.. Flamboyant actor. That's the word I chose to described him, though I didn't really sure about the actor part. My uncle said politicians are never mean to be trusted. Because they will do everything for power. That's no way politics is a clean world. It's dirty, full of lies and only make chaos. 'Yeah, everybody is a liars, except a politician!' That's sarcasm remarks came from Chase in House MD series. He think House has lost his sense when he believed what his patient's said. The Politician. I think it obvious that House didn't like him, but for some reasons, he respects him. That's exactly what I feel about Pastika. During the election, I didn't get a really good impression about him. Since I've been surrounded by Puspayoga's participants. Pastika this Pastika that. But they seem not really sure themselves, it was 'choose the lesser than two evils' situation. The problem is, I hardly hear from his side. A little unfair. All I know is, he's like an hero for Balineses. Because he is the police's chief that captured Bali's bomber and sent them to jail. But I understand what Bahar means when he said Puspayoga didn't stand any chance against him. He is really smooth, really mature. Everything he said just like he's been practicing it hours in front of mirrors. He dodged every blunder easily, as the same time, praises to the moderator mighty and send verbal attacks for his opponent. He is a tough one. In other side, Puspayoga lacks of public speaking skills. Or so they said.

Today, I experienced the effects of his speech once again. And I'm still in awe. Honestly, I'm surprised when he speaks Arabic well, even it's just a hadist. Not that I'm not expect it. My, he's in the front of hundreds people whose 'maybe' doesn't fond of him as well as he on us. But for the sake of peace, we must endure each other's presence for some hours. We are in coalition after all. He was successful made us believed that's he was really appreciated the gathering and we are, the outsider, are openly welcomed to stay in Bali. Krama Bali, that's the name. Whatever the meaning of it, but he got a great applauded when he said it. Heaven, he even learn about salam and some of rules in Islam. He really know how to face people. And make them respect him without trying too hard. In order to defeat your enemy, you need to make him closer. Make them friends. Not that we are an enemy like in superheroes movie, the good and evil sides. It's just we are standing in an opposite poles, but we're heading a same direction. One purpose, very different methods.

Enough about the politics and it's intricate. I begin to sound like a Miss-I-know-everything which the fact is I'm know nothing. I want to stay away from doubts and don't mean to start. There's is something in the way he said the hadist that move a string in my heart. Yucks, I sound like a sappy teenager but no, I'm not exaggerated. I've been heard the hadist numerous times before but this time I see a new light. He explained that every knowledge we possessed, must be applied in a good way. Business, science, trade, government. Every single of it. And that was the time I realized it. Yeah, maybe right know I just a vital signs nurse, with less skills and practices than the others. But hey, at least I applied it everyday. And I make sure I do it right every single time. Not only in my workplace, but in some community services that I love. That's the key right? Doing something that I love.

And when I think nursing is not only about hospitals and have a magnificent skills, but it's a vast of work fields. We can work everywhere, and we are still a nurse. More or less. We are a nurse. Nothing will change it except our heart.

And I want to be a nurse for the rest of my life. Spending my time to help people. Because when we help someone, we help ourselves.

Anggun: Ibu

Aku suka dangdut? Ngggg.. kayaknya nggak hard to believe banget. Tuhan, sampai disini aku merinding. Betapa besar anugerah dan kenikmatan menjadi seorang ibu. Sesuatu yang kerapkali ku impikan. Tapi aku sadar, mungkin Allah ...

The Reflex

Like they said, if you do something for years, you get pretty good at it. Or in my case, used to it. Because I'm not sure I'm a good or lousy rider. Sometimes it feels like the first but not rarely I feel the second. Aku melakukannya sebelum memikirkannya. Ia memiliki mekanisme tersendiri. Pun paru-paru...

Malin Kundang

"Dimana itu Nak?" Pertanyaan protokoler akhirnya keluar di ujung sana. I almost roll my eyes if it wasn't for the answer itself. What was this place called again? My brain went blank. In panic state I running in storange room names my brain, rummaging for some memory. Nope, nada. Fortunately, there's last source of knowledge standing there. I turn to her and ask. "Dimana namanya ini lenga?" My, my. The look on her face is priceless. Just like I ask her where is my keys when its dangling in my bag. I I can't help but broke into laugh. "Ya Allah lenga beneran side lupa?! Karang Sukun." Cue for the stern-looking-mom-expression. It was so understatement. I was lived in that area for almost one year yet it's name easily slipped from my mind. I was never intended to comeback to my old landlord yet Cg's landlord came 500 kilometers across sea to attend her wedding. Yep, I can totally see the picture here. Not only that time Cg must huffing ...
